It’s Radish Growing Time!
Radishes are among the easiest vegetables to grow in your kitchen garden. They’re the fastest and least demanding of all root crops—which is impressive, considering root vegetables are generally low-maintenance. In fact, many gardeners say radishes are the easiest plants to grow overall, thanks to their rapid growth.
If you want a reliable crop that fits even into a busy schedule, radishes are a perfect choice. After planting, watering, and thinning as needed, these little plants mostly look after themselves.
Sow your radish seeds now and enjoy a rewarding harvest in just about a month!

French Breakfast Radish
This is hands down my favorite radish to grow. After a few disappointing seasons, I found this variety and haven’t looked back. The roots stay small and are ready to harvest in under 30 days, making it perfect for quick, reliable results.
Daikon Radish
I’ve had great success growing daikons in my fall raised beds. Unlike the small French Breakfast, daikons grow large, long, white, and carrot-like—so be sure to give them plenty of room. They take longer to mature, usually up to 50 days. While the flavor is quite peppery—more than I prefer—daikons are excellent for loosening compacted soil.
Watermelon Radish
This variety is definitely the most beautiful when sliced open. Watermelon radishes have a sweet taste with just a mild peppery kick. Instead of growing long, they grow wide, reaching about 4 inches in diameter. Expect to wait about 60 days for these tasty, baseball-sized roots.
Cherry Belle Radish
The classic radish you often find in stores, Cherry Belle produces crunchy, bright red roots about 1 inch across in as little as 24 days when conditions are right.
